[s-cars] CV joint gone bad?

my '92 started doing that, though it was more of a tapping noise.
it happened only in first and second gears when pulling away from
a stop, and it went away after the car was warm.
i checked under the car and the transmission mounts are worn. i
think there is enough movement to allow the exhaust to bang against
something. i've been meaning to replace the transmission mounts. it
looks pretty easy to do.
