Regarding UAE,
It's because you've been taught the North American work ethic by your
parents and our culture.  That is you don't deserve to have anything unless
you've worked for it, and if you've been given it, or born into wealth, you
won't appreciate any expensive items, nor will you take care of them.
That's the belief most of us have been indoctrinated with.
