Hi Paul,
I just spent the weekend swapping radio parts for my (early) '95 with one (delta or gamma I'm not sure) that I bought from an ebay source.
My volume control knob was on the way out so I first decided to try wheelman's suggestion of contact cleaner. Well I think I used too much and fused the plastic together so that you could barely turn the knob and then it only worked at one (not load enough for me) volume level. Note that the contact cleaner was "plastic friendly."
When I opened the ebay one up (which I bought a couple months ago) the friggin display was cracked.
So I swapped displays and then installed the ebay one. The VC knob on that one was as good as new but the reception was awful. I then tried the "front" antenna connection (vs rear) and now reception is great. My changer (which I never use) works great.
Gt500r hooked me up with a radio code for the ebay one but to my surprise it never prompted me for a code?
Dave

I also have a '93 S4 and this is something a few have been wondering
about on the list recently, myself included.
It is apparently not too difficult to install a Concert1 (or even a
Concert2 if you don't mind losing a few features that rely on having
CAN-bus which pre-'98 Audi's do not have) head unit into a post-95.5
Delta head equipped S6 (as Tom Mullane did:
www.mswanson.com/audi/Phat_upgrade.pdf ), but for installation into an
earlier Gamma head equipped S4 more work will be needed.
Here's a quote from Tom's reply when I asked this same question back in
August:
"The dash fitment issues are the tip of the iceberg
for the earlier cars, unfortunately. The wiring is
vastly different and much scarier. Steve Young is
going to attempt tho sort this out for his 93, so
perhaps we will see a solution in the coming months."

A few others I remember off the top of my head that are interested in
doing this conversion are Steve Young and Tom Green.
Some info on Audi head units are available at
http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audi/radios/ and
http://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec86.shtml
Please let me know if you figure anything out,

'93 S4
'99.5 A4 1.8t>>>
Count me in here too guys. My '95 OE changer has f'd the pooch, ok so I
could score one on ebay for $25... but... my OE headunit is on the way
out too (knob / pop issue). Soooooooooooooo...
Any others out here, as in, any GP to be had on the Fat unit heh heh (I
re-fuuuuuuuse to spell Fat the 'other' way!)?
Did Steve Young ever complete his conversion on his '93?
Need tunes. Local radio in CT has gone down the crapper altogether!
-Paul
