S-Heads,
I know there are varying opinions about dyno results, essentially that you
can make a dyno say almosy whatever you want. That being said I am
considering taking the car to a dyno. I haven't done this before, but since
I am about to install the New England FMIC I thought this might be a good
time to get some data points. Each session would include no more than 8
pulls.
My current thinking goes like this
Session 1
Engine/Exhaust As Is:
RS2 turbo
RS2 Manifold
Lucas Delphi Injectors
Forge BPV
Dahlback WGFV
Mihnea Custom Chipset
Bosch 3 Bar
Stock exhaust w/ gutted cats
No Undertray
Session 2
All the above plus
New England FMIC
Session 3
All above, except I'll re-install the working Cats
Rub Number 1
Each one hour session will cost $200USD (this includes special $35 fee to
set up Audi's because they are "more difficult to strap down" (is this true
by the way?), special fee for using their AWD dyno, and special fee for
selecting the Air Fuel Ratio monitoring option)
Rub Number 2
200 x 3 = 600 samoleans, thats alot of cabbage for me
I have some assumptions that I'd like some feedback on
Ass 1
I shouldn't see any peak increase in HP/Torque numbers due to the FMIC
install, as the first pull, when the car is the coldest or should I say,
the intercooler is the coolest, should be the same with either the stock IC
or the FMIC. The FMIC only helps keep the power Mihnea already programmed
into the ECU a bit longer, hopefully alot longer. Is this right?
Ass2
In order to see hp/torque gains with the new FMIC, I'll need to have Mihnea
re-tune the software with the FMIC in mind, as I hopefully won't see
"ridiculous intake temps, we better back off" - Mihnea Cotet as before.
Crazy?
I asked if they could monitor intake temps pre- and post intercooler, but
they stated that they don't have the equipment, but that I could buy a
system for Innovate which adds up to another 600 george washingtons!
Anyone have another, more budget conscious method of monitoring intake
temps? I rember Mihnea just placing some bare wires under the samco at the
throttle body, but then again, I was a little sleepy from the drive up to
CT.
So I've been Rubbing my Ass's alot over the past few months and I'm
wondering if I've been working too hard. What do you all think? Is this a
big waste of cabbage?
Thanks
-manny
