Contrary to your e-mail, info found at this website says it's possible
http://www.aaa.asn.au/pages/import.htm#temporary. I'll have to research this
a bit more. I see you're in Melbourne. I was there for a week 2.5 years ago
when I worked for Nortel.

I live in Australia and have a '94 S4. You can buy parts here,
and get excellent service here--trouble is you can't drive it here,
because we drive on the left, and l.h.drive cars are not street
legal. If you just want to track it, no problem!
