Dear Tony,

Yes, it seems that people like me--Australians--can't register a
car with l.h.drive, but visitors can. Note however that regulations
vary from State to State, and if you want to do it for more than
12 months in any State, it's not going to be easy. You might also like
to check the shipping costs. A few years ago I planned to buy a car in 
the UK, where they have the steering wheel on the correct side, ship it
to NY, drive aross America and ship it to Oz. The plan foundered on
the horrendous costs of the last shipping leg. That was 10+ years ago,
so things may have changed...in any event, if you get here, I can introduce 
you to a good Audi mechanic in Melb/Syd/Canberra.
