I have yet to have the opportunity to drive a chipped 2.0 FSI, but having
driven the A4 3.2, I think the 3.2 with a 6-speed manual would make a really
nice driving car.
 The 3.2 is very torquey and still pulls hard through the rev range- the
major letdown is the automatic transmission.
 My choice would be a '06 A4 3.2 6-speed with no options other than sport
suspension w/ summer tires.
 As for your son, get him something like a Volvo 240, then you don't have to
worry about your A4.
