[s-cars] Kids and cars

I own a '91 F-150 as a Home Depot Vehicle and parking is a PITA even with
lots of driving experience. These are horrible first cars, in my opinion.
My nephew, who lives with us, drives a '91 200 wagon and loves it, so does
everyone else at his school. I am thinking about changing cars for him but
I am just not sure what I would replace it with...possibly a Nissan Maxima,
no timing belt worries, lots of torque, room, and good economy. The best
money we ever spent was sending him through a weekend course where they had
to recover from skids in water, do slalom courses (backwards and forwards),
real time quick decisions...it was amazing how much his driving confidence
soared.

Ian,
I'd say the F-150 is a great idea until you have to fill it up. The up side
is that she'll never want to drive it so that fuel economy would just be a
small consideration. Also, parking a bigass buffoon of a truck like that
will be a serious PITA.....just saying from experience and would think you'd
have some serious insurance bills after she hits something in the parking
lot. I do see your point in looking for a big hog of a vehicle for your
daughter to drive but there are other people in the world to consider like
the ones driving smaller than F-150 cars that may be in her path. How about
a nice Ovlov 240DL? Decent gas mileage and built like a tank! I'll be in
your shoes in about 15 years when I'm looking for a tank for my now 6 month
old daughter to drive. I do, however, like the character building idea of
driving an old tired beast. That was half the fun in HS for me! Ha ha!
Just my $.02,
Jason Mawhinney
