Because the adapter is not a simple transferer of cable wiring, but
includes a fuse, two integrated circuits, IIRC, and other parts. OTOH,
a sufficiently motivated person might be able to copy the circuit and
build an adapter, but most would find paying for one a lot less inefficient.
