[s-cars] Bose system pops with Alpine deck

The front openings are a little larger than 4", like 4 1/2, so you'll either
need to go with 4s and use a bracket (like this one:
http://www.mjmautoinnovations.com/sakb45t4.htm), or get crazy and do some
serious cutting and maybe get some 5 1/4"s in there. For the rear doors it's
more of the same thing, 4"s but aftermarket speakers will actually bolt
right in there with no mods. What's interesting about the rears though is
that the tweeters are actually utilized back there whereas the tweeter
grills on the front doors are just for show (no speakers whatsoever). I did
components up front when I redid my entire system and it sounds pretty good,
you may want to experiment with tweeters in the rear doors though, I always
figured there must have been a good reason for bose to put them way back
there. As for the rear deck, those speakers are your usual 6x9s (I believe)
but getting them out is a pain in the A$$. The speaker is actually housed
between the grill and the bracket which are FUSED together. Yeah. I used a
drill and had to carefully drill the plastic connections out (you'll see
what I mean if you ever remove them). Finally, running wires isn't too bad
once you master removing the lower door sill trim. That's where my wires
live and I haven't had any noise issues down there yet.

My recommendation to everyone is to try everything you can to keep the stock
system running, because in the end, an aftermarket system can sound better,
but it sure costs a lot to get it at that level, and it requires a lot of
frigging around. If I could go back to having $1000 in my pocket for stereo
equipment, I would beg and steal for the pin outs and whatnot on the factory
CD changer cable and try to build an adapter myself for a Sony unit and have
about $900 left over for more important mods. It puzzles me why no one has
done this before. The cable is right there, as far as I know, all you need
is the stupid adapter box and you're set. A good electrician should be able
to figure out how to make one in a weekend. Oh well, it's all in the past
for me, there's certainly no going back now. Good luck.
