Pin 40 is definitely the output to the tach from the Motronic ECU.  It is a 12V signal that pulses low.

Dear Kevin,

Thanks--you are right. But there is a corresponding output from
the MOTEC, and it needs to go to the corresponding terminal on
the plug that plugged into the Motronic, and now plugs into the
MOTEC. My question is still whether pin 40 is correct as the pin
providing this signal.
