Reading this brings back memories of my '75 Scirocco.  Great engine, and the 
rest of the car constantly fell apart around it.  My vote for the biggest 
rattle trap of all time is the Chevy Vega.  No way a recent Subaru is a 
rattle trap, and our '95 Legacy has no wind noise at all (road noise, hoever 
is much higher than the Audi's).  I like the Audi better, but the facts are 
that it gets probably 10 hours of maintenance for every hour the Subaru 
gets, and I spend more for Audi parts in a year as I've spent on the Subaru 
in 10 years.  If I gave the Audi the same maintenance time as the Subaru, it 
probably would be one of the biggest rattle traps around.  But I still like 
it better.
