After my snapped clutch rod yesterday, I pulled out the MC and surveyed
the damaged. The rod was snapped right at the MC by the flexible joint.
I took it over to a friends house and he welded a 6mm bolt onto the
clutch rod where it snapped off. Looked pretty good, so I re-installed
it. Kinda a PITA to put it back in - much harder than getting it out,
but its done and hopefully it will hold until I can get a new MC next
week.
While doing this, I am reminded on how stiff the pedal is, and no wonder
the rod snapped. I guess its time for a new clutch as it has 175,000 km
on the original.
Some tips;
1. drain the brake fluid reservoir
2. remove the compressed wood fibre board next to MC to get easier
access to clevis pin
3. do not separate clutch rod from MC by removing the circlip as I did.
I did this to make the welding easier. The piston and seals are a PITA
to get back in.
4. pump the clutch pedal while bleeding to get the air out, took me a
while to get all the air out.
Hardest part was getting the clevis pin back in, ended up using a
magnetic pick-up tool feeding it through the access hole and lined it
up.
