"Before begging for some money from my wif to purchase new coils I'm going
to splice some new wires on the old ones.
Question: can the wire connectors to the coils be removed without breaking
them? - of course they are brittle from the heat."

Bob,
Funny, I have just learned this parts management tidbit from Brian Bilotti.
You need to build an even bigger inventory of parts to bring your wife to
the point where she grows more curious and reminds you that you are silly
and should just buy the parts as you need them. Since this is now her idea
future purchases 'should' proceed unhindered;)
Do not even attempt to explain the concept of parts becoming unobtainium or
you risk revisiting that "you are an idiot" conversation yet again.
WRT your actual question, if I understand it, the answer is "No."
The coil wire connections are buried inside the coils and cannot be
disconnected. That said; you could cut them and splice in new wires though
this seems like a big waste of time to me.
OTOH I wasted three hours on Saturday refurbishing all my interior light
switches, so I am an obvious advocate of time wasting.
