[s-cars] Spark Plugs

Haven't posted to the list in a long while, but feel the need to chime
in on this discussion. I agree completely -- spend the extra bucks and
go with OEM plugs. We had this very discussion a few years ago on the list.

The UrS's pushed the envelope quite a bit with relatively high (esp. for
the early 90's) compression ratios and boost levels. (Chipped/RS2'd cars
push it even further.) Throw in sustained high speed running (can you
say Autobahn?) and one can understand why special, expensive plugs were
spec'd for these cars. The compression and boost figures are still
impressive, even compared to more modern cars. Just no comparison to
your daddy's Oldsmobile.

Problems with "cheap" plugs tended to show up on track days, or after
sustained high speed interstate flogs. Suddenly, car no run so good
anymore. So, ya pays your money and takes your chances. Though my UrS is
in the hands of my step daughter these days, I'd write her out of the
will, if she used anything other than OEM plugs. If you want to save a
buck, buy windshield washer fluid in 50 gal. drums. Do not skimp on plugs.

OK...back to lurk mode and S4 V8'n.........

>Well, so far I've got 57k miles on my OEM F5DP0R. Car has never skipped

>pulled a couple of plugs and compared them to brand new ones I have in

>The way I look at it, if I only need to spend $50-$60 every 60k miles,
>or more, for OEM plugs that I know will work, why would I bother looking
>for something cheaper. Just doesn't seem worth it to me.
