Sounds like a classic case of broken wires in the door jamb.
Open the door, pry open the rubber accordion boot, and look
for broken wires.  Splice in 2-ft of new wire (use a ratcheting
crimper and butt connectors or solder, your choice), and tuck
the ends back into the door and body kick panel.
