[s-cars] Increased UrS mileage 20%

At the risk of re-igniting the perennial mileage thread, I just increased
the fuel economy of my UrS4 from a paltry 11 litres/km (21 miles/USG) to 9
litres/100 km (26 miles/USG) as my personal response to rising fuel prices.
The fuel economy has been steady at just under 9 l/100km for the last four
fill-ups in my mix of highway/city driving. It still burns premium though!

No capital cost, either. Easy 2-step process (well, maybe not so easy as it
involves changing personal habits :)

Step 1: Slow down (gasp!). I used to drive 20 - 40 over. I slowed down to
the point that if I do get tagged, it's not worth the trouble to pull me
over. That was good for 10% increase in economy.

Step 2: Teach your ECU well and pump up those tires. I was running 32 psig
to compensate for our rough roads. I increased it to 36 psig all round. I
also disconnected the battery so the ECU would forget "leadfoot" and learn
"featherfoot". That was good for an additional 10%.

The daily 150 km commute also seems less stressful for some reason. Must be
getting old. Maybe its the beautiful fall colours and the misty mornings....
