Ron, Dave,
I'll try to clear up any misunderstanding.
The "starting bid" can be any number the seller chooses it to be.
The 'buy it now" can also be any number the seller chooses.
This auction has no reserve.
The confusion lies in the fact that most people start the bidding at $1 or
$0.01 so lots of people check out the auction because they can't believe how
cheap the item is. They also have a reserve that is secret. If the bids
don't make it to the reserve price the item is not sold.
As a bidder you want to bid late to keep price low (so you don't lose by a
dollar) but if you don't meet the reserve in the last couple of seconds your
bid is no good. It is a tactic used to drive the price up in the final
frenzy.
I would rather say up front 'this is my reserve' ($3999) and if you bid and
are the highest bidder you win. This could work out really well for somebody
if they bid the minimum in the last 20 seconds, if no one else bids its
theirs. If you bid 2 days early someone else will come along 20 seconds
before the end and buy it for $1 more. In reflection the first bidder will
be angry because he would have gladly paid 1 lousy dollar more to win.
As the car has a limited focus appeal starting it at $1 with no reserve
could go very wrong for me as if the right people aren’t looking this week I
might end up selling the car for $50. And as I hate the reserve thing I
wanted to avoid it.
I only posted the 'buy it now' feature as it is my wish price and there are
lots of people in the world that have more money then time and would rather
just buy something with out goofing around with auctions and dealing with
being out bid for a $1.
The only trick to the 'buy it now' is if somebody bids on the car the 'buy
it now' feature disappears. Another ebay trick to get people to use the
feature.
As far as the wheels are concerned. The original S4 wheels did not come with
the car when I bought it in 1997. They are 2piece 5 spoke Simmons wheels. I
was not planning on selling them with the car but to offer them for $500
(Canadian) to the buyer or later separately.
The DOG ugly wheels are the winter tires. They have worn Michelin Alpines.
The car will not come with a spare unless you want a mini donut. (I have a
couple of those).
The rims are awesome for the winter. I regularly drive through 2 feet of
snow to work and because of the closed design the snow doesn't get stuck
inside the rim and cause it to get unbalanced. They are nice and skinny to
so a 195 tire fits really well.
Let me know if you have any other question or if I did not explain things
well enough.

Ron: Yeh, its a bit weird. It does say "no reserve" in the text of the add
but it also says Starting Bid CDN$3999 and "0 bids". (WTF??)
Maybe Andreas would like to clear that up for us.
Plus, where are the real S4 wheels? The wheels in the photo are from some
Audi 100 and are DOG ugly. Inappropriate for an S-car unless they are only
the winter wheels.
