If a '96 in Canada is like  a '95.5 in the US which I
think it is, I'm pretty sure the switchblade remotes
won't work.  As far as I know it is '97 only that has
the updated lock controller/RF receiver that can
accept the switchblade.  I tried a couple of
switchblade remotes w/ my 95.5 s6 and they would never
work.  I finally ended up hacking up one of my key fob
circuit boards and rewiring etc to fit it into a
switchblade remote.
