[s-cars] Engine cut-out - still

Bob,

After reading this more, I think this has almost got to be a loose
connection or failing electrical sensor somewhere. I wouldn't rule out all
"mechanical" difficulties but things changing over a matter of seconds like
that seems to indicate something electrical. I think the absolute best
thing to do would be to catch the car when it won't start, park it, and then
continually try starting it while checking voltages at different locations.
For instance, one thing you could check when it won't start is the pulse
coming to an injector. If the pulse is or is not getting there that will
narrow it down dramatically either way. Obviously this is better if you
have access to some kind of O-scope. I would simply carry the
multimeter/o-scope with me and be prepared at any time with some rags,
bentley, etc.

There are really very few things that can cause your car not to start or at
least try to sputter to life.

Chris,

I pulled the MAF connector and cleaned the contacts carefully. Then
a swabbing with Stabilant 22a was done. While in there I took a good
look at the cable itself. It looks good. Went for a drive. Car
started and ran perfectly. I drove it about a mile from home and
then turned around, car still running great. About 100 yards before
getting back home the engine cut out again and didn't want to restart
(car still rolling with clutch out). I coasted into my driveway and
the engine restarted so I pulled it into the garage. I don't think
the MAF cable - at least not the connector - is the problem.
