[s-cars] Quick Tyre Fitment Question

I agree with Dave. 32" of the white stuff at my house last week and my
235/45/17 Wintersport M3's did great...passed lots of stuck SUVs. Would
narrower widths be better, sure, but then again I can say that the
difference in dry handling is soooo much better on 235 V-rated snow tires I
don't mind. The 55 series vs. 50 series won't be all that noticeable.
Since you have such wide rims the 225/55s will tend to flatten out a bit and
the aspect ratio won't make quite as much difference as the calculator says.
Also, the variance between manufacturer's can be some. If you can get them
for a good price I wouldn;t hesitate.

With all due respect for Lee's comments... acceptable width for snow tires
is debatable. I've never run a snow tire narrower than a 225 on any of my 4
door Audis. All have done superbly in the snow. On my S4 (C4) I run
235/45/17's with excellent results.

I'm not south of the Mason-Dixon either... I live at about 9000 feet in the
Rocky Mtns. We just got through a fairly decent storm... dumping over 2
feet at my home. I am still "Audi-ing" around just fine in my 225/45/17
equipped 200 20v.

However, I don't think you'll want to use a 225/55/16. I think you'll find
them too tall. Better stick to a 225/50/16.

Hope everyone is having a great holiday.

Dave

Ian,

Unless you're south of the Mason-Dixon line, those tires will be
too wide for any real snow. You want a 205 or 215 max width for
the C4 Audi. And that width tire will be too narrow for the 16x8
wheel...I know, I mounted a 205 on that wheel and it just didn't
work.

You need a different set of wheels...
