[s-cars] Check system

VAG-COM has no effect.  The display remains dark.  The same chip set 
(even the same ECU) as was in my other S6 (for sale, BTW) had the 
display working in the other car (still works).  Other chip sets, 
even from other suppliers, have the display working in the old car 
but not the new(er) one.

Is there some sort of module similar to the headlight function 
indicator which just plugs in to control the check system 
function?  If so, WTF is it?
