Yes, my '99.5 A4 1.8t also uses a flexible segment at the bottom of the 
factory downpipe.  If I could offer one suggestion, a flexible bellows 
replaceable separately from the downpipe would be nice.

The Audi A4 1.8t stock downpipe is integrated with the flex portion and 
must be replaced as one unit when the flexible bellows fails, which is 
every four years or so on most Audis so equipped here in the snow (make 
that salt and rust) belt.  The downpipe is usually just fine, but much 
$$$ must be shelled out to replace the unit as a whole.
