[s-cars] Stromung Exhaust

Jeff,
Any corrugated piece needs to be firmly held at both ends or you will find
immediate flex cracking. I built a system back in the early '70's with
three sections of corrugated. (Turbocharged 1970 Rover V8) Yes, I started
with the Rover! The wiggly piece fell off after 120 miles.
I eventually used only two corrugated sections. The corrugated should only
allow for movement due to heating and cooling and a little wiggle.
Wow! My second email to the list in one day.

Thanks for that news Taka,
I didn;t remember the 200 - 20V cutout is offset more than C4 chassis S
cars.

Sounds like I need to walk about at next S Fest to see the good, and not
so good fitments eh?

Offering longer tips is a good idea, although that means a special part,
specific to the
S car exhaust. I've tried to maintain component choices within the
Stromung inventory, in an
attempt to reduce build time and cost.

on a new topic.. downpipe long life.

Recently Marc Swanson offered the idea to integrate a flexible bellows
device at the Downpipe.
This reduces flex/stress at the DP due to the rearward steel moving
about. Then I did the obvious thing
and checked out the new Audi S4, A4 at Audi Nashua and damn, that's
exactly what Audi
does.

So if I DO open the product improvement process, I'll try to address
both issues posted today.

All the best
Jeff

Actually Jeff, I've seen Stromungs on S-cars that are pretty
well centered.
Of course, it takes quite a bit of tweaking of the hangers to
accomplish the
	centering.

The 200 is offset more, that's why the comment.

Rather than do all of this adjustment on the exhaust system, why
don't they
	just offer longer tips?

	Taka
with plenty of tip- 5" diameter titanium :-)

		Hey
Let me set the record straight.

Stromung has not released the kit described below.
Frankly that idea
developed after a chat with Brian at the Wash DC Auto
show and his
comment that the tips should protrude farther to make
the Stromung logo
		easily visible.

The tip placement was a hotly debated topic 4 years ago
and I have not
Convened the aesthetics committee in a long time.

While talking to Brian, I suggested using the 2 hole
oval exhaust
flange, to extend the tips 1/2 inch. Place it in series
between section
#2 and #3, use longer bolts and Move the tips back.

This can be done, but I have not finished the fitment
analysis yet on my
		S car(s)
Such a kit would only move the tips rear-ward about 1/2
inch.
I have to insure the hangers can still function without
relocating the
		jig at Stromung.

Taka is correct in his observation that the tips could
be centered
better in the bumper cut out.
I need a S4 or S6 fitment car in LA to line this up.

If anyone is near Huntington Beach, please write off

Stromung tip extension kit? I hadn't heard of that one
before. Was
that something introduced later? I'm wondering if the
extension kit is
related to fitting these exhausts to 200q20v's. Anyone
know? (I'm
		copying Jeff.)

I heard Taka describe the fit in the tip area isn't
quite right for the
200q20v's, quote: "You need to get the tips extended on
the 200q20v if
you use a C4 S-car exhaust- otherwise, the tips will be
very recessed.
The tips also need to be offset about 1/2" to the left
when viewing the
		exhaust from behind".

At some point I'd like to put a Stromung under my
200q20v. Does this
extension kit allow the tips to be in the right spot for
a 200q20v, or
was it introduced for another purpose?

		Thanks,

		Ken
