[s-cars] HID Install-now turbo talk

If you want "RS2 like" performance, my suggestion is a 50 trim Garrett/KKK hybrid, using a "stage 1" turbine wheel. I have tested many hybrid combos, and this one is the best mix of early boost and good top end power. This turbo combo produces about 340atw, compared to 325atw for an RS2. Peak torque for the 50 trim was about 380, vs 400 for the RS2.

Keep in mind that you will have to fabricate oil and water lines for this type of install.

As far as the ball bearing Garretts... Javad seems to like the 3071 hybrid. I ran a 3071 in my car for a short time, and it does work well... very early hit, with decent top end power, but I never had it on the dyno. However, lifespan may be an issue. My first GT30R only lasted 22k miles before the bearing section failed. My second one now has about 12k miles on it. I'm, hoping that it will last a bit longer, but time will tell.

With an RS2, even at a higher cost, you can rest assured of a long life. On a cost per mile basis, the RS2 may still be the best option out there if your goal is 300-330whp.
HTH,
Dave

In an unrelated issue, I am preparing to really go down the slippery slope
with plans to go with the MRC "RS2" chip, Lucas-Delphi injectors,
Centerforce clutch and a yet to be chosen turbo. What is the collective
opinion of the best options instead of the $$$ RS-2 turbo. I already have
the RS2 EM installed and would like to go plug and play. I remember a
thread on the Garrett-KKK hybrids, the ball bearing GT28R, etc. I want to
maintain decent drivability. The CBR 6 speed is also on the list and I'm
looking for a source for that too.
