[s-cars] Sequential Turbocharging

I think the new (Europe only) Golf will get the twincharger engine that I
think was mentioned in another post. Sounds very interesting but also
sounds pretty complicated. Here's a short article on it.

A mechanic friend who does Porsches built what I think might be just as
interesting. He had a sequential blower and turbo. The
blower/compressor/supercharger gives him a lot of grunt at low RPMs.
Probably more than and further down than a small turbo can give. He has
built a mechanical control somewhat like a heart valve. When the pressure
from the turbo exceeds the pressure from the blower, the valve switches over
and the blower cuts out.

You could use a very small turbo in the first stage but the parasitic losses
caused by pushing gas through a small restrictor (hotside of the first
turbo) would be a negative factor for getting real push out of the second
stage. Both ideas are fun. Looking forward to seeing somebody try some
solutions.
