On the 959, Porsche used a set of valves to switch from single to
compound turbo operation. I'm sure if Porsche could do it for the 959 a
few hobbyists can cobble something similar in their garage, right? :)

Hehe. Yeah, I am sure any of us shade tree, junior wrenches could do it in
an afternoon :o) It looks like you dug it out of Paul Frere's book so I will
have to look into that again. Thanks for the info.
I was also interested in the VW solution that another post on this thread
showed with a hybrid blower/turbo solution. 168 HP out of a 1,4l plant is
not too shabby. It looks like a light car too. And HP doesn't say it all
since HP = k x rpm x torgue. The torque curve could be flatter or at least
less peaky. Who wouldn't love a flat torque curve from 1500 to 7500. I think
I will head out to the garage and weld some valves together.
