I think a fair few of us have experienced that.  I kept mine as a memento.
It wasn't really a broken key, more like no key and some metal powder where
the key used to be.

I bought a new one about ten years ago for GBP30.  For that kind of money,
it's not really worth using one of unknown origin - an impact driver may
have been used on it.

My crank pulley (the one the t belt rides over) has a broken key.  Anyone
have a spare they would be willing to part with?
