[s-cars] High coolant pressure and heater valve

Vincent,
I suspect that even a normal cooling system pressure (somewhere around 15
PSI) is enough to pop the hose off once the part with the barb has broken
off.
The pastic fittings Audi used in the cooling system sure don't seem to hold
up. I had the plastic "T" fitting that holds the climate control coolant
temperature sensor (in the heater hose between the rear of the engine and
the firewall) break just like your heater valve.
I tried a temporary fix like yours, but it came apart right away. Probably
doesn't help that the coolant is so slippery, but without some kind of barb
there really isn't much to keep the hose from being forced off even under
moderate pressure.

P.S. You could drive with the coolant reservoir cap off so there is *no*
pressure in the system... however, that could lead to overheating (or at
least boiling of coolant after shutdown.)
