Jeff-
I try to take meticulous care of my cars and especially in a forced
induction application,
I would definitely use full synthetic oil.
In the Audi I-5 I tend to use Mobil 1 15W50, although some people have
noticed oil consumption
issues with 15W50 and no issues with 10W30. I would continue to use these
weights, generally.
IMHO, the Canton-Mecca oil filter and other similar filters are overkill-
regular oil change intervals
of 3-5k are overkill if you go by oil analysis results. Check
bobistheoilguy.com for some data backing
up my statement. A Camaro V-8, which is a less stressed engine than a turbo
engine, went nearly
18k miles on Mobil 1 without any breakdown issues. Regular oil filter
changes are important, but
the oil itself was fine.
Considering that the OEM filters are good quality and inexpensive, I'd
change oil filters at a minimum
of every 5k miles and oil between 3-15k, depending on what you're
comfortable doing and if you're really
concerned, doing an oil analysis to determine your exact procedure.
That said, if it makes you feel better, go ahead and get some Redline oil
and Canton-Mecca filters,
I don't think it will make much of a difference. I'd probably go that far if
it were a McLaren F1 or something
like that, but not for a "normal" car.
