[s-cars] Car Paint

I have an issue with the paint on my car; it is cracking on the hood.  Any
special thing needed to get this in shape other than sanding it down?  Does
it have to be sanded to bare metal and then built up?  I would hate to paint
the car and then have the new stuff crack.  I actually painted an old Audi
Fox twice and the paint still failed. 

Another item, any special tricks to getting the trim pieces off the doors
and sides of the car.  The middle pieces are easy.  They just slide off.  I
have already broken on piece by pulling it straight off and do not want to
repeat this.
