If the internal vanes in the rotor are curved, they determine the direction
of rotation. The rotor must be installed so that the rotors pump air from
the center of the rotor to the rim; this improves cooling. If the vanes are
straight (typical of most rotors for our cars), they can be installed in any
orientation. If the rotors are slotted and the vanes are straight, the
rotors are installed so the outer edge of the slot contacts the pad first.
The function of the slot is to vent pad off-gases and to shave the pads to
prevent glazing.

No, I just don't understand. Are slots for grip or dust or both or what?
Also I would like to know if I've been running around with my rotors on
backwards for the past eight years ;)

 Hey guys, I helped a friend put a new set of brembo slotted rotors on his
Evo the other night and he just emailed me saying that we installed the
going the wrong way. I thought that the inside of the slot should contact
the pad first so that the dust would be drawn to the outside. Is this wrong?
Brembo says the outside needs to hit the pad first?? Thanks for any input.
