[s-cars] A 1.8t coil conversion stumble AKA Beltway hilarity!

All,
This afternoon, I was cruising along a wonderful donut
of asphault hell called 495, at a steady speed (about
65-70). I remember thinking to myself, "Damn this car
is running like a dream!" Suddenly, following that
super jinx... Stumble. CEL. Massive loss in engine
power (limp mode?) and ME trying to ease myself across
three lanes of beltway traffic like an old lady
crossing the road.
Sweet.
After popping the hood and dont see anything
particularly obvious, I started pulling and reseating
the coilpacks. She starts back up fine and i drive
the rest of the way .. slowly.
Was that the reason? It was frightening. I was looking
at the engine later and think that added a piece of
1/4" aluminum bar stock with holes for studs and nuts
would do a nice job of holding the packs in (if thats
what actually happened)
I have not pulled the code yet but based on how well
the car ran AFTER the "event" Im suspicious of the fit
of the 1.8t coils.
Any idea?
Sandy
