Sounds like SOMEONE needs to just get a plate CNC'd to hold them into place,
not unlike:

I have something similar on the Mitsu, works very well and while it may not
be "spec" on the 1.8T, I do believe there are grooves in the valve cover at
the very least to ensure that gravity isn't the only thing keeping the
coilpacks in there.  Wouldn't take much more than a very careful measuring
(ahem, paging all enginerds) and a couple trips to the CNC shop.  Heck, I'd
say you could take a piece of billet aluminum stock and have the Audi rings
embossed into the top for not much more, so long as it's not mass produced
enough for some lawyer to send you a cease and desist letter.

If there are any listers in the Cleveland/Wakeman/Elyria, OH area, I could
recommend someone that could set this up for y'all.
