Audi said the harmonic balancer has to be ordered from Germany ($412) and the thrust washer from germany too ($76).
 
They said it is covered under the extended warranty (thank god) but that the warranty company wants to send someone to inspect and verify the broken parts.
 
Is the key/crank pulley attached to the harmonic balancer?

Would it be possible to machine a pulley with a sheared key to make a
keyway and install a stronger key?
