[s-cars] few basic questions

Maybe this is Audi blasphemy but I have never replaced a single oil pan
washer in at least 25 oil changes on Audis, and dozens more on other types
of cars. I have never had a single leak.

As for the brake hardware, what do you mean?

The anti-squeal springs? They don't need replacing. There isn't much else to
it, for the fronts. For the rear, you need a special tool that allows you to
turn the piston clockwise while pressing it in or your P-brake will not
reset.

There is no special washer for the oil filter. Make certain you get the
correct filter. As I am not in my own home, I can't verify for certain the
P/N, but I believe it is the Mann/Mahle 917-20 filter you want. Other's
please verify. It will say "Turbo" on the filter. An acceptable alternative
would be the VW 1.9 TDI filter, which is now the required filter for the
1.8T extended warrantee.

Yes, you do want a replacement drain plug washer. In a pinch, you can anneal
it by heating it red hot with a torch, flatten it and let it cool and hope
it doesn't leak. You really DON'T want to over torque the drain plug, the
oil pan is cast (as in soft, with less than strong threads) aluminum. Many
listers have averted the possibility of stripped threads by installing a
Fumoto drain valve, www.fumoto.com which means never having to risk
threading a plug again.
