What I've been contemplating is using a gutted 3rd brake light enclosure mounted up front above the mirror.  I think Daniel Stern has some universal units that would be just the ticket (well hopefully not).  The adhesive strip seals up against the windshield and I would leave the back of it open for the rear signals.  A small fabric flap with velcro could be utilized when you want to hide it completely.

The remote display goes in the IC, and the remote volume/headphone module goes in the little coin tray behind the diff switch.
