[s-cars] dead turbo? :- (

Last night I thought my Bypass valve had died, symptoms were a howling
and no boost. unhooked the valve from the turbo intake hose and when I
revved the engine pressurized air was flowing out of the valve and I
heard the howling come from the valve.

This morning I purchased a replacement bypass valve from my the
stealer.
I replaced the valve and frustratingly discovered I still had the same
noise.

Will be having my local tech loook at it later today, right now I am 
inclined to believe the bearings in the turbo are shot.

But why would the bypass valve be allowing air through it the way it
is?

befuddled, frustrated, and wondering what to do next.......oh yeah and
the baby is still due April 1, doctor is estimating a 9 - 9 1/2 lb baby
which has the Mrs. a bit concerned....
