[s-cars] Hydraulic reservoir filter

Does anyone have a good method for cleaning the hydraulic reservoir  
filter?  I am starting the long
overdue fluid change on both vehicles.  I am impressed at the  
filtering capability of that mesh filter.
It really gets full of junk and seems impossible to get clean with  
solvent and compressed air.  The
replacement filters are ~$50 for something I always thought was just  
an afterthought by an engineer
with a few reichmarks left in the budget.
