Marc idled:

<<<On a related note, perhaps someone can tell me if this is an ISV
problem. Patient is a '93. Car idles great except for the problem below:

When decelerating on approach to a red light, I usually just pop the car

out of gear and hit the brakes. Often when I do this, the engine RPMs
will coast down to the normal idle speed and then keep going, down to
the vicinity of 500 RPMs or so. At this point, something realizes that
the RPMs are too low and the engine speed rebounds well past the normal
idle, up to as high as 2,000 RPMs. After this the idle immediately
returns to normal.

This occurs about 1/3 of the time when I am decelerating as I approach a

light. So far a bit of experimentation seems to suggest that if I stay
off the brakes the problem doesn't occur.

Since the idle is rock-steady other times, so I wonder if this is ISV
related or something else entirely. My assumption is that an ISV problem

would show itself at other times as well. Anyone seen a similar issue?

Same here Marc, and I've cleaned my ISV thoroughly, new 02 (tho long ago
now), new this new that, etc. / blah blah blah. Some days it does it,
some days it does not, some days it stalls. No pattern. Somedays stone
cold somedays just after exiting after a hot run. That one I refer to
as the "flame-out" heh heh.

I've just Pavlovian'ed around it, conditioned now with always a blipblip
of da go pedal each time I slap into neutral pretty much expecting it to
happen at any time. Problem solved.

Was funny, once I had my boss in the backseat and a client in front
going to some sheeshee lunch and blipblip'ed it into the parking spot to
a stop. Client turns to me... "I heard that".

My boss just looked befuddled.

Gotta love it.

This tho of course was Mr. 3 Ferrari's (with 28 cylinders) and 2
Porsche's (with 4 turbos), so I'm sure he's Pavlov'd as well 8-). Tho
his new F430 is an F1 and eliminates that for him yes - my whirl cometh
sooneth as he keeps reminding me - stay toooooned - my first F1
adventure, intriguing.
