Not that it's going to be a lot of help to, one reason you may not be
getting a simple answer is that hats can, and do vary depending on the brake
caliper bracket used.
Many "hats" come with a matched caliper bracket. Then to top it off, or
not, while the Porsche 322x32mm rotor seems to be, by far the most popular
rotor used in many of the two piece systems, it is NOT the only rotor used.
There are a number of systems out there using, just as an example, Coleman
rotors.
Finally, once you open the Coleman, and other manufacturers bag of rotor
alternatives, you are back to having to deal with different rotor diameters,
330mm vs 315mm diameter AND thicknesses, usually either 30mm vs. 32mm.
These have been, at least in my experience, the most common alternate two
piece sizes. Diameter and rotor thickness again affect the bracket or hat
dimensions and the corresponding offsets used by different fabricators.
There simply isn't "one" set of hat dimensions out there. That said, I
thought at one time, BIRA used to provide dimensions &/or offset specs, or I
may be confusing that with required wheel offsets.
Ron, you seem to be asking the list for a simple, single answer. The
reluctance to provide such an answer may be due to the fact that you could
spend a lot of time and effort, not to mention eventually actual real $$$ on
one set of dimensions only to discover that the other various individual
parts you are chasing for a kit won't match up. Since a brake failure,
unlike a power failure, often presents a much greater opportunity for
disaster, there's a reluctance on the part of many, witness for example
BIRA's not necessarily unwarranted paranoia over "unauthorized" sale of
their brackets and hats, to venture "definitive" opinions on the matter.
And all of this complete ignores the subject of inappropriate material
sometimes used in the fabrication of various hats, and in particular in my
experience, brake brackets. I've seen some pretty scary brackets out there
made of some pretty soft aluminum.
If you're not happy with what BIRA has to offer, http://www.bira.org/ , or
some of the other small manufacturers have to offer as kits, you might try
talking to KVR Performance up in Canada, I think, about hats. +1 (800)
636-0854 They used to have stuff for the UrS4/6's, but I think they favor
the Coleman rotors.
Wish this could be of more help.
Mike
