Hey Bruce,
No question that it is a stretch, and when you can get an '04 S4 with
20,000 miles with that wonderful 4.2, makes you think. However, my
rationale for this is, like you, I really enjoy old S4. There is
something about dropping the car into 4th at 70 mph and putting your
food into it that produces a rush that not many newer cars can
duplicate. I have seen a few of those 100,000 - 130,000 nice cars, one
owner, etc that, at the end of the day need, or shortly will need, all
the stuff we put into this car. I am not sure where you live, however a
number of years ago, someone on the east coast did a number of 70's BMW
2002 restorations, don't know how many they sold, but they did sell and
some of those cars turn up today for decent dollars.
We have gotten some interest on the car, and as I said, we did a
customer car, 95 s6 Avant, 135k and had about $16,000 in it. Turned out
great.
Also, we are not strangers to restoration here. This dealership used to
be owned by Porsche, I bought it in '04. On a regular basis we restore
356 Porsches as well as 70 and 80's cars. We are also the largest
distributor of Porsche 356 Parts in the Country. If you have reason to
be in the Cleveland Ohio Market, please stop in for a visit. If you
like, Porsche and Audi we always have a lot going on here. Check out
our web site.
