[s-cars] New S6 owner / engine noise

I think he pretty much eliminated lifters as the source when the noise
quit with the clutch disengaged, car moving or not...

So, what is it ?  I don't know.  But I would be trying to localize  
the source
of the noise.  I don't know about using a broomstick, since the wife  
doesn't
like me to cut off all her broom handles, and the straw sticks in  
your ear if
you don't. :-)   I guess I would be looking around that bell-housing  
but really
hoping I didn't have to open up the clutch to find the problem.  Is  
there a
doctor in the house ?  (stethoscope needed)
