S-heads,
If I might add one thing to consider since I just went thru this myself.
What is the correct part number for RS2 Caliper Brackets
1. Apparently therre are 2 floating around the net:
8A0 615 125 A (This is what Javad sells, and what I ended up buying from him)
8A0698125A (Vagparts-this is what they list on their website)
I did some internet searching and found a thread in which Mihnea was responding to some guy who got a deal on RS2 brake parts. The thread specifically mentions 314mm rotors.
I think that the OE application called for 322mm rotors.
The later model, I think D2, A8's and S8's here in the US that use sliding calipers use 323mm rotors. The big brake (re: brembo like or brembo actual) fixed calipers use a 345mm rotor.
I think ETKA may refer to the typical stock RS2 brake system as using the 314mm rotors. There is supposedly some mention of "Off Road Applications" which I think may refer to the larger rotor version for the RS2 - the 322mm.
I am certainly not as well versed as many on the list, but this is what I think:
The vagparts number
8A0698125A
may be for the smaller brake rotor application (314mm)
The other number (which I bought)
8A0 615 125 A
may be for the "Off Road" application in ETKA speak, and used the OE 322mm rotor.
I'm not sure, but it is worth checking out before you do a Group Buy.
I mounted 323mmx30mm 2002 A8/S8 (for Lucas Calipers) boat anchors on my 8A0 615 125 A RS2 brackets from Javad, and they seem to work. I just bedded the pads last night so I may have more to report later on but it looks promising.
I was especially interested in the rotor sizes, as I had bought an extra set of 314x30 brembo rotors when Tire Rack had that part number snafu and were selling these as stock UrS4 rotor, but they weren't. That's why I wanted to know if I could run the 8A0 615 125 A version of the OE RS2 caliper bracket with 314 rotors.
I had the ECS Stage 2 brackets running the 323x30 Euro A8 slotted rotors. They always squealed like stuck pigs and I tried everything imaginable to stop the squeal, but nothing would last longer than a month. So far not a peep out of the genuine RS2 caliper system, and I will report back after a month. I hope I have killed 2 birds with one stone.
One note, I had to trim down some of the bolts to fit the OE RS2 brackets, so if you currently have an ECS Stage 2 kit you may need to do the same, but otherwise you can re-use the rest of the hardware. I had been told by several sources that those bolts are not one time use bolts, but if you guys find a source for bolts I may just join in, just to have them.
Good Luck with the GB.
