Hmmmm OK.  I do not recall seeing posts on the subject but then again I
don't read every post.  Easy fix indeed.  Messy?  Yes indeed again.

Mine started leaking 3 or 4 years ago.  A few other listers had the same
problem about the same time, so I would call it a common failure.

I was glad it was such an easy fix.
