[s-cars] clutch switch

Does the clutch need to be depressed to start an urS4? I'm slowly trying to
track down the non-functional cruise control issue. I removed the lower
piece under the dash to get access at the brake and clutch switches. The
brake switch seems to get fully pressed when the pedal is released, but the
clutch switch MIGHT not be getting pressed 100%. It's close, but not quite
100%, and it's very difficult to get a hand in there to feel around much.
Now, my car WILL start without pressing the clutch in, and the starter will
even crank if I have it in gear with the clutch out. This seems a little
odd on a car like this, even if it IS 13 years old.
Maybe the clutch switch isn't being pressed in completely, allowing me to
start the car without putting in the clutch, and also keeping my cruise from
working???
Thanks,
Mark
