I am sorry for your loss, Brian.
I hope you remain with the list however things work out.
Get as personal as you can with the insurance adjusters and your
own insurance representatives to insure they don't treat you as just
another number or file to move, and they understand the trauma that
you and your passengers were subjected to by the thoughtless and
reckless actions of this driver. Address them by name as soon as you
can determine who is responsible for your case and insure they know
you as an individual, Dr. Powell, maybe? :-) Every bit helps since
they want to close things asap, and want to avoid personal injury
entanglements. Just keep negotiations open by not being intractable
on any one point, and bombard them with data on comparable vehicles
that they won't have as well as information on your own car.
Photo documentation before and after and at the mishap site seem to
impress the most.
