[s-cars] steering rack rebuild

I think I will be rebuilding/replacing the steering rack this week. I
noticed that the top of the transmission is covered with a layer of black
dirt and the dust covers are shot. I suspect the black dirt on the
transmission is hydraulic oil and road dirt. 

So my questions are: 
	Is it possible to rebuild a steering rack at home? 
	Can I find the rebuild kit?

I don't mind collecting a few more special tools, otherwise it will be sent
in as a core for a rebuilt unit from the obvious suppliers.

Any suggestions?
