Yeah... I think the spring. I tried a bunch of different things, including one of the airfoils from an early car. After trying the new arm, I could have kicked myself for messing around trying anything else.
The $31 price was from Sunset in Portland, OR.

Ahh, so you think it's a weak spring!
OK, I'll try that first. BUT! I'd still like to see the mod/B5
replacement answers, just in case...
