Craig,
to my unmitigated eye of a foreigner and an outsider it seems that this 
rather obvious language difference lies more in the realm of the subdued 
cultural tradition heavily influenced by the religiousnesses of the 
majority of the population rather than in the scarcity of its 
vocabulary. Unlike their American counterparts the Europeans in general 
are much bolder in expressions and would employ acid borderline 
blasphemous metaphors with little if any hesitation.
